Why should your child join our swim team? Swimming should be FUN! Being on a swim team is a great way to extend a child’s love of the water beyond mere recreational activities! Kids who aren’t comfortable with other sports may excel in swimming if given the opportunity! It feels good to be part of a team.  Researchers have found that it’s also a boost to overall health and well-being. Kids are welcome to try a class at NO CHARGE! How the Cascade Killer Whales Swim Team Works:Our swim team is led by Coach Laurie Fletcher and is assisted by Coach Doug Green.  They are a great pair, each of whom has impressive backgrounds in competitive swimming and coaching.  Connecting with each kid and thoughtfully encouraging them are just a few of their special qualities.Kids are welcome to try a class at no charge to see if they are interested.  Please contact Greta Kleberg at gretabaier@cascaderec.org to discuss a free trial date. Swim Team requires the purchase of a facility membership.T-shirts with the Cascade Killer Whales logo and child's name are available for adults and kids for $10.  It’s great to wear the shirts to school and around to promote awareness of our swim team!  During the swim team registration process, you will be asked if you want to purchase a t-shirt.We encourage the team to use Speedo Adult or Jr. Vanquisher 2.0 Mirrored Swim Goggle.  It offers panoramic anti-fog lens with UV protection and the mirror lens helps reduce brightness and glare from the sun.  These are available for sale in our pro shop in the lobby.Scholarships are available for memberships. We offer two year-round swim teams:Cascade Killer Whales Senior Swim Team Improve and refine all strokes, develop powerful swimming by utilizing enhanced stroke and breathing techniques, and increase stamina drills.  To be a swim team member, your child must be able to swim the length of our pool (25 yards) unaided. Practices:The child can attend all practice days or a combination of days that work for their schedule. We are flexible. In competitive swimming, swimmers can use all four of these types of strokes, or some of the strokes individually, as well as in medley (or combination style) events. Swim teams also often swim in relay events where members of the team work together and trade places at either end of the pool. Once on a team, children are usually grouped by age. Our groups are: 10 and under, 11 to 12, 13 to 14, 15 to 16, and 17 to 18. Our team competes at swim meets, which is optional to members.  Cascade Killer Whales Junior Swim Club A new, preparatory club for future swim team kids who have completed swimming lessons and want to develop strength, endurance, stroke and breathing techniques.
